Hattikudru island - Part of my childhood....

Hattikudru is a small Village in Kundapur Taluk which is my birth place. I have lots of memories connected with this place are all still very fresh in my memory. I spend my childhood here so it’s very important for me to visit this island again & again.
Hattikudru -Hatti means Cow-shed (Cattle-shed), Kudru means Island; this place was cattle-shed for Alupa kings who ruled Basrur (1155 A.D) so its came Hattikudru. Basrur a small town located in its southern side and Hattiangadi a spiritual village located in its northern side. The South & west side of this island is very scenic. There are so many small streams that gave more beauty to this village and few small abounded islands enclosed to this village. The island is located in a serene atmosphere surrounded by paddy fields and palm gardens, delimited by the river Varahi.
Every year I used to visit once or twice to this place to attend my family functions. Meeting cousins, gossiping, playing, eating and what not? Those were the fun days of my life whenever I visit here. We cousins used to have a blast during our every visit to Hattikudru.
Hattikudru is a quiet and lonely place where prefect for rest and appreciation of the beauties of nature. In a village people do not live too close to one another. Therefore, my grandpa house is far apart from any other houses. Flowers, fruit plants, vegetables, palm plantations and vast paddy & sugar cane fields surround our house. All this makes our house look green and fresh.
Whenever I visit to my Grandpa house, I try to go wander in this lovely village, and it always reminds me about the middle school's life. My school situated another side of the river top of the hill and it took one mile to walk after crossing the river. Whenever we finished the classes, my destiny was to play my classmates near the rivers. We played many traditional games and lot of village water sports with my friends and cousins without my parent’s knowledge.
Few more funny moments like on my first bike ride, I fell down into the river, I took my uncles bike and crossed newly constructed railway bridge with my friend Nagu (We are the first person), crossing shaky seasonal wooden bridge with escapade bike ride, During the monsoon seasons crossing flooded river and attending classes & exams, When I was 9th standard after the school function, we took the boat with its long sticks from another side and successfully crossed the river in dark night with my friend Shinu (normally  that time boat will stop at night 8pm and distance is around 1.5kms.),
in low-tide days pushing boat for 200-300 meters stretch while crossing the river, Eating Sugar cane and endless talking with bro on terries at late night, lots of non-stop Galli crickets in bare open islands, great adventures days in rainy time especially on Nagapanchami fest, traditional calibrations at home in festival time, An interesting and competitive cycle rides with my bro Ani... so many fresh memories like this… Living among such friendly and simple people, in a Green tinged land, bounded by clean river is indeed a real pleasure. I am proud of my island and my past life I spent here.

Home is where the heart is!!

Blessed are those who have a place to return away from the mundane drag of commercialized life.

The place, write-up,and photos speak the sublime relationship of what nature is to people with eyes to look what it offers.

Exquisite photos to highlight the dreamy landscape. Special thanks to Mr. Ashok for this lens work.

Simply superb.

Excellent write-up. And the place looks like a Paradise! Actually I am a Hattikudur, the father of my great-grandfather left the island village and moved to Madras more than 200 years ago. We are Saraswats speaking Konkani. Thank you for sharing!

It's one of biggest Kudru (river island) in Karnataka costal. Sad to say that there is no bridge to it's connecting village. Neither Hattikudru people demanding nor elected leaders showing interest !!!
